Colorado Vacation (Part 2)

We stayed in Gunnison for 3 days, at a place called Lost Canyon Resort.  It was such a beautiful place, with the cabins just yards away from the river.  Here is a picture of Ryan in front of our cabin. 

 The first thing Rachael did upon our arrival was to tromp down by the river, right through a bunch of mud.  So here she is, washing her sandals off in the river.  By the way, that water is COLD.  Much colder than the Frio River we swam in the month before.

Ryan is upset here because he accidentally dropped his Lightning McQueen car in the river, and we couldn't retrieve it.

The kids liked to sit at this picnic table and either play Legos or draw.  I liked to take my Kindle down by the river and read; it was so relaxing to hear the rushing of the river the whole time.

One day we took the kids into Gunnison (our cabin was a few miles outside of town), and after breakfast and playing at the park, we hooked up with Mark's Uncle Scott and Aunt Luci, who took the kids fishing.  Despite having grown up on the coast, Mark and I don't fish.  So this was a new experience for our kids.  It was kind of slow for them-- they wanted to catch the fish immediately, but once a fish would latch on, they thought it was pretty cool. They each caught some trout that day.  I could also tell that Rachael was a little unnerved by the whole process-- it was the first time she had seen a fish die.  I don't think she really understood what was going to happen when she caught the fish.  She probably still hasn't made the connection between the thing that swims in the water and what is on her plate at dinnertime.

 I asked Ryan to take a picture of us.  I wasn't sure what we were going to get, but we're both in the frame, so that's actually pretty good.

While we stayed in Gunnison, we took a day to drive to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, which is not far from there.  It was a beautiful place-- we picnicked, hiked, drove down into the canyon... it was lots of fun, and we wore out the kids :)  Pics to come soon in another blog post.
