How the Kids Have Grown

We took the kids to the doctor for their well-baby check-ups this past Friday. The doctor said both are growing well, and except for Rachael's sinus infection, both are healthy. Here are the stats for those of you who care about such things:

Rachael: 35" tall, which is in the 80th percentile for height; 28 lbs, which is in the 70th percentile for weight. She only gained 3 lbs in the last six months but grew 2 1/2 inches. She's got all of her teeth except her two-year molars, which haven't started coming through yet. The doctor has projected she'll be somewhere around 5'6" when she grows up. Rachael has now been cleared to eat anything she wants, although we've tried peanut butter, and she says, "Don't like it?" (because when she tells me she doesn't like something she says it in the form of a question).

Ryan: 25 1/2", which is in the 75th percentile for height, and 15.3 lbs, which is in the 60th percentile for weight. He's got a little head, though. He's only in the 10th percentile for head size. Ryan got two more vaccinations that caused him to be a little fussy over the weekend, but he's fine now. He's also been cleared to start solids, so we tried him on rice cereal over the weekend, and we can't tell if he likes it or not. He seems slightly repulsed by the spoon, or maybe that's just that extrusion reflex of pushing things out with his tongue that's making it seem that way. We'll keep trying it with him, but until he learns to keep the food in his mouth, we won't make much progress. I've got pictures of this milestone that I'll post when I have more time.

Rachael was switched to a different antibiotic after she spiked that 104 fever, and it seems to be doing its job now. She acts like she's feeling much better. The doctor thinks it was the sinus infection that was probably causing the fever spike. Anyway, our newest issue with her is that we can't get her to stay in her bed at night. She goes to sleep on the floor by her bedroom door. We don't think she's getting quality sleep, but we can't seem to do anything about this right now. We always make sure we put her back in her bed before we go to bed at night, but at some point, she always moves back to the floor. Well, hopefully this is temporary--don't want the child sleeping on the floor by her door when she's 10.

Anyway, stay tuned for the Ryan cereal pictures; I've got a couple of goodies.
